Free and open source · AGPLv3

Self-hosted remote monitoring and management for Windows and Linux

RMMZit keeps an inventory of every computer, watches it and raises alerts, lets your technicians work on it remotely, runs scripts, installs updates and software on a schedule and sends each customer a report — from one web console on your own server, in your own network.

What RMMZit does

Everything an IT department or service provider needs every day, for every Windows and Linux computer you manage.

Why RMMZit

Your server, your network

No cloud service and no account with us. The console never has to be reachable from the internet; agents connect outbound, so managed computers need no open ports.

Secure by design

Separate ports for the console and the agents, commands signed by the server, pinned certificates, two-factor sign-in for every account and a hash-chained audit log.

Made for service providers

Customers, sites and devices; per-customer access for technicians; policies per customer; reports per customer; GPO and Intune rollout from every site page.

Light and fast

One server with 2 vCPU and 1 GB RAM handled 1,000 agents with about 200 MB of memory and 3 % CPU in our load test; after a restart all were back within 8 seconds.

In your language

The console, its built-in guide and the agent's tray window speak 14 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Serbian, Turkish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese.

Free, with support if you want it

Open source under the AGPLv3, with no limits on devices, customers or technicians. Commercial support comes from MaxZit, the company behind RMMZit.

How it works

Running in minutes

Import the ready-made appliance — OVA for VMware, qcow2 for Proxmox/KVM, VHDX for Hyper-V — boot the appliance ISO, start the Docker image, or install on an existing Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux server:

curl -fsSL https://github.com/Max-Zit/rmmzit/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sudo sh

Then open https://<server>:8443, enter the setup token and create the first administrator. Add a customer and a site, create an enrollment code and install the agents. All downloads and install options.

Frequently asked questions

Is RMMZit free?

Yes. RMMZit is free and open source under the GNU AGPLv3, with no limits on devices, customers or technicians. MaxZit offers optional commercial support.

Which computers can RMMZit manage?

Windows 10 and 11 and Windows Server 2016 and newer (64-bit), and Linux computers with systemd on x86-64 or ARM64 (Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux and others). Remote desktop on Linux needs an X11 session.

Does RMMZit need the cloud or an open console on the internet?

No. You run the server in your own network. Only the agent port (8444) has to be reachable by computers outside your network; the console stays limited to your own networks.

Can I use RMMZit as an IT service provider for several customers?

Yes. Devices are grouped by customer and site, technicians can be limited to certain customers, every customer gets its own policies and reports, and the agent shows users who manages their computer.

How do I deploy the agent to many computers?

Create an enrollment code on a site. The site page shows a ready Group Policy startup script and the settings for a Microsoft Intune Win32 app; the MSI also installs silently from any script or RMM-style tool.

Can RMMZit install Windows updates and software?

Yes. It lists missing Windows updates and Linux packages and installs them by hand or on a schedule, with maintenance windows, update rings and restart deadlines. Programs come from winget, optionally Chocolatey, or your own MSI/EXE library.

Is remote desktop included?

Yes, in the browser for Windows and Linux (X11), including sign-in and UAC screens, several monitors, clipboard and file copy. An optional notice on the remote screen tells the user when someone is connected.

Is RMMZit an alternative to commercial RMM tools?

RMMZit covers the daily work of commercial RMM tools — inventory, monitoring, remote access, scripts, patching, software and reports — as a self-hosted, open-source product without per-device licenses.
